The name “Gleaner” originates from the old fishing and agricultural term “to glean,” meaning to gather from the land or sea. The company was originally established to serve these industries.
Founded by Robin Young in 1954, Gleaner passed to his sons, Brian and Evan. Later, Evan’s daughter Jane and her husband Stephen acquired full ownership. Gleaner remains family-owned and is now in its fourth generation. Jane and Stephen’s son, Evan, has joined the business, bringing a strong vision for the future.
Today, Gleaner is a trusted fuel supplier, supporting agricultural and commercial sectors with fuel, lubricants, and greases. Our depots serve the domestic heating market with a variety of services throughout Scotland.
Since 1997, the Gleaner Service Station Network has expanded steadily. Our Gleaner-owned and branded service stations provide fuel and essential services to motorists across the country.
Our Partnership with Shell
Before Gleaner became an independent fuel distributor, the company operated as a “Shell Distributor,” selling and delivering Shell bulk fuels across Scotland. In 1973, Gleaner began distributing Shell lubricants and greases. Today, Gleaner proudly serves as a Shell Authorised Distributor, offering a full range of high-quality lubricants and greases. This long-standing relationship with Shell highlights Gleaner’s commitment to providing premium products and reliable service across Scotland.
Over 70 Years’ Young
On April 24th, 2024, Gleaner Ltd proudly celebrated 70 years in business—a remarkable milestone!
Jane and Stephen Scott have now owned Gleaner outright, for the past decade. Their son, Evan, now brings fresh vision to the family business while upholding the same strong values of tradition, innovation, and community support.
With a focus on sustainability and innovation, the Scott family is excited to continue serving the communities that have supported Gleaner for over 70 years and beyond.
